Five global sources, one record
Discover RIMS builds one record of your institution’s publications from open, widely used research data sources. Each source has a specific job: OpenAlex supplies works and citations, ORCID iDs and Scopus Author IDs identify researchers, Scimago ranks journals, and Crossref fills gaps.
What each source adds
Each page sets out what the platform reads from the source, how records are matched, and what it does not do.
- Publications and citations OpenAlex The main source: every work and citation count in a researcher’s record, the countries of their co-authors, and the h-index and i10-index on their profile.
- Researcher identity ORCID The anchor for each researcher. Their ORCID iD finds their works in OpenAlex, and the DOIs on their public ORCID record fill gaps.
- Author IDs and indexed journals Scopus Scopus Author IDs identify researchers who have no ORCID iD, and the Scopus source list flags publications in Scopus-indexed journals.
- Journal quartiles Scimago Journal quartiles from the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), behind the Q1–Q4 breakdowns, quartile filters and top-10% journal flags.
Crossref, the fallback
Crossref registers DOIs for most journal articles and offers an open REST API that needs no key. Discover RIMS uses it in two places: to fetch metadata for DOIs on a researcher’s ORCID record that OpenAlex does not have, and to search recent publications by author name. Name searches cover the last two years, or ten years for researchers OpenAlex has no record of, and each result is checked against the researcher’s family name.
Name matching is less reliable than matching on an identifier, so publications found only this way are hidden from public profiles unless an administrator chooses to show them. They still count in search and analytics.
